Mirtilli

Czech Students' Choir

The Mirtilli Choir was founded in September 2012 at the Secondary Business School, Pedagogical School, College and Language School with State Language Examination, Ltd., Hradec Kralove. The founder, artistic director and choirmaster is Tomas Boruvka, who teaches music education courses at this school. Vojtech Kawan was choirmaster's collaborator during the first concert season. Since 2014 the chamber ensemble (working title MiniMirtilli) has been part of the choir. In September 2023, Zuzana Janakova, also the school teacher, started working with Mirtilli as the 2nd choirmaster.

Mirtilli members are mostly students of pre-school and extracurricular education. Participation in the choir presents professional training for their future careers. Some members of the choir also have their own music and singing experience, because they have worked in other major choirs and musical groupings.

The choir has completed many successful performances and concerts. Several of them were organized for kindergartens in Hradec Kralove (Slunecnice Kindergarten, Zvonecek Kindergarten etc.). The Mirtilli Choir also regularly performs at various school events and cooperated with the Orlice Mixed Choir from Kostelec nad Orlici. Our choir also appeared during the gala award ceremonies for blood donors in the City Music Hall or during the 25th festival Jicin - The Town of Fairy Tales.

The choir's repertoire is a multi-genre - e.g. adaptations of folk songs, Metsa Telegramm by Uno Naissoo, Adiemus by Karl Jenkins or ageless Super Trouper by ABBA.
